City of Vancouver:
Public Engagement Report for the City of Vancouver

How Daxio Design created a comprehensive design vision and feedback report for the Arbutus Greenway Project.

THE CHALLENGE

In 2016, the City of Vancouver purchased the Arbutus rail corridor from Canadian Pacific Railway for $55 million, transforming it into the Arbutus Greenway — a vibrant public space designed for walking, cycling, and social connection. To ensure the project reflected community needs, city planners launched an extensive public engagement process that invited feedback from residents, community groups, and Indigenous partners. Input was gathered through multiple channels — including the City’s website, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WeChat, Weibo, and YouTube), newsletters, open houses, workshops, and on-site surveys — resulting in 7,000+ public interactions across 50+ events.

The City of Vancouver partnered with Daxio Design to create a visually engaging and data-rich report that compiled all consultation data in a clear, accessible, and professional format. Daxio Design’s challenge was to transform highly complex stakeholder feedback into a clear, visually engaging document that was aligned with official branding and accessible to both government officials and the public.

The report had two key objectives:
1. Communicate the Vision: Explain how the Greenway would evolve into a connected, inclusive public corridor.
2. Summarize Stakeholder Feedback: Provide useful insights to inform planning and decision-making.

THE STRATEGY

Daxio Design created a visually dynamic report that blended modern design style with data clarity; combining illustrations, infographics, and concise copy to communicate the project’s design ambitions and summarize engagement outcomes.

  • Vibrant Design: Colourful layouts and illustrations.
  • Data Simplified: Easy-to-read charts and summaries.
  • Strategic Value: Clear insights for decision-makers.
